From prison to a hotel? - Wel.nl

State Secretary of Security and Justice Fred Teeven announced last week that 30 prisons and forensic hospitals have to close because of budget cuts. Instead, two new prisons come in a public-private partnership structure (PPS): 1 Zaanstad in 1040 and first place in Veenhuizen with 576 places. Private companies to manage the building, catering and part of the monitoring - cheaper because the staff has no contract officers. These prisons are, however, still run by the Service (DJI), so by the government. The government wants to save 340 million euros by the measure.
The cuts provide ample opportunities for architects and developers. The RGD owns the prisons, but the municipalities can be the first to decide what happens with the new empty buildings. The municipality has no plans for it, then they can be sold. The municipalities will remain involved in the sale, because the zoning should be. Probably changed
